The difference between "beach park" and the "beach".
A "beach park" is a park that runs along the beach and ocean. On the island of Oahu, most beach parks are under the jurisdiction of the City & County of Honolulu. Some beach parks are under the jurisdiction of the State of Hawaii.
A "beach" is the area that is "below the shoreline" and is "below the line of vegetation".
With a Beach Park wedding; you may stand above the line of vegetation / above the shoreline. If you stand BELOW the line of vegetation/ BELOW the shoreline you are on the beach and in a different jurisdiction.
This does not necessarily have anything to do with standing on the "sand". In many beach parks, there is sand with vegetation on it and is above the line of vegetation.
For information on weddings on the beach, please see
"Beach Wedding in Hawaii: Regulations" on side bar.
No permit required for a small wedding ceremony at City & County of Honolulu Beach Parks. Usually 10 or less people.
Please check with the City. Please verify this information with the City Park Director; ESPECIALLY of you plan on putting up an arch or tent.
For a list of City & County of Honolulu Beach Parks:

Simple beach park weddings are an affordable way to get married. With most public City & County of Honolulu parks, no permit is required if the ceremony is simple, small, and does not entail reserving a space, tents, chairs, alcohol, etc.
To obtain and verify need for a wedding ceremony permit in a City of Honolulu park, you need to contact Anita Lagundimao ; you may contact her by e-mail: alagundimao@honolulu.gov
If the ceremony is small, there is usually no charge for the permit.
This can be done via e-mail. If the ceremony is less than 10 people, the City usually does not interfere with such a small group.
You will need to provide the following information:
Email will be the best way to communicate as the City is unable to call long distance.
Other contact info.
